Job summary

COLSA is seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer to support NASA NCAPS, ACPO, and DIISC. As the founding design lead, you will establish the design practice, build a reusable design system, conduct user research, and create production-ready interfaces for data-heavy analytics applications.

The role focuses on turning complex data into clear, usable interfaces and collaborating with engineers, data scientists, and program staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in design, HCI, or related field.
• 8+ years of related UX/UI experience.
• Experience designing data-heavy analytics products (dashboards, tables, charts).
• Proficiency in Figma.
• Experience creating a design system from scratch.
• Experience defining personas and conducting user research.

Responsibilities

• Create the team’s design system from scratch, including components, patterns, standards, and documentation.
• Define the team’s user personas from the ground up; plan and conduct user research.
• Produce high-fidelity prototypes and production-ready designs for data-heavy analytics applications, including dashboards, data tables, charts, data visualizations, and complex data-exploration workflows.
• Make complex, technical data clear and usable by selecting appropriate representations for the data and audience.
• Produce user flows, wireframes, and other UX deliverables and present and defend design decisions to the team and stakeholders.
• Establish the team’s design processes, standards, and tooling and set expectations for design quality across applications.
• Work closely with engineers, data scientists, analysts, and program staff to translate requirements into usable software.
