Job summary

athenahealth seeks an experienced UX Designer to design experiences for EHR and practice management products. You will partner with product and engineering to address clinical workflows using research-informed decisions and clear execution.

The role is Boston-based with hybrid work and reports to the UI & UX Design Director. The team focuses on usability, clarity, and consistency across product experiences, collaborating with clinical and product stakeholders to deliver practical solutions and

Qualifications

4–5+ years of professional digital product design experience.
Experience creating high-quality design deliverables including visual design, prototyping, copywriting, and specifications.
Experience planning, facilitating, analyzing, and reporting user research using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Experience working in an agile product development environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain design decisions clearly.

Responsibilities

Frame user problems and guide design direction in sessions.
Create sketches, wireframes, prototypes, and design artifacts communicated clearly.
Conduct user research and heuristic reviews for usability and workflow fit.
Partner with product and engineering throughout planning, design, and development.
Apply systems thinking to simplify complex user, workflow, and data relationships.
Contribute to journey maps, vision documents, and prioritization materials.
Present design decisions to stakeholders and justify recommendations.
Support onsite engagements to gather feedback and validate decisions.
