Job summary

NiSource is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to provide legal guidance to utility clients in Ohio and Kentucky. The role focuses on regulated matters, requiring strong business acumen and the ability to manage complex regulatory proceedings.

Candidates should possess a JD, bar admission in OH or KY, and at least five years in the utility industry, with excellent communication and negotiation skills for collaboration with senior management and external partners.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state; Ohio/Kentucky bar preferred or willing to become barred.
• 5+ years of experience with subject matter expertise in the utility industry.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to interact with senior management.

Responsibilities

• Resolves legal issues and provides proactive, business‑savvy legal advice and counsel.
• Manages complex matters and outside counsel on select matters.
• Anticipates regulatory issues and provides applicable legal guidance.
• Drafts, reviews, and revises legal documents; negotiates with outside parties on utility regulatory matters.
• Counsels clients on state regulatory requirements and compliance; develops relationships with stakeholders.
• Mentors in-house clients and communicates progress and status updates.
