Essential Functions
30% Water Distribution and Water Production
Oversee operation of power drawn pumps and related machinery.
Ensure daily check of operational gauges is occurring.
Operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge
readings and
test results to determine process adjustment requirements.
Install and maintain all water services.
Ensure all connects and disconnects of water services are completed.
Oversee water meter reading and record volume used by customers for
billing.
Read meters when necessary.
Sample and analyze water, and/or draw samples to be sent to KDHE to
ensure water
quality and compliance with applicable drinking water standards. Report
results to the
appropriate parties.
Investigate customer concerns on water use and advise customers on water
conservation practices.
Operate multiple computer applications including a utility billing
software, digital form
software, SCADA system, and radio read software.
Operate distribution and collection system equipment, including backhoe,
dump truck,
shoring equipment, hydro excavation unit, tapping machines, locating
equipment, jet
truck, combo truck, televising equipment, and easement machines.
Oversee locating, inspecting, rehabilitating, and raising vaults, meter
pits and manholes.
Cross-train and fill in as needed to assist in water, wastewater, ro
stormwater
operations.
Respond to emergency calls for possible distribution, collection, or
operation system
problems.
30% Asset Maintenance and Repair
Troubleshoot problems, routinely inspect, and maintain all department
equipment,
machines, pumps, and motors in good working order.

Maintain utility facilities in a clean and safe condition.
Conduct minor maintenance tasks, including general construction,
painting, grounds
maintenance, metering facility, water production facilities and
assisting with snow
removal.
Assist the fire department with the fire hydrant maintenance program.
Locate and repair water leaks, and maintain water mains, pumping
facilities, valves,
water storage facilities, and main-to-meter service lines.
20% Leadership and Guidance
Coordinate work assignments for subordinate personnel.
Provide recommendations regarding individual performance expectations of
subordinate personnel, monitor and evaluate employee performance through
formal
and informal performance reviews according to policy.
Participate in and motivate others to adhere to the Public Works Vision
and Core Values.
Provide necessary training for division personnel regarding the usage of
equipment and
proper methods of completing utility tasks.
Participate in the development of system maintenance schedules.
Ensure safe working conditions and practices are in place for department
personnel.
20% Records and Reports
Prepare and maintain proper records, reports, and documents in an
organized manner.
Operate software system to view and complete work orders and update
customer
account notes as needed.
Continually looks for new and improved ways of completing the above
Functions. Other Tasks
as assigned will be performed in order to address business needs.
Position Requirements
Latitude: Most duties are assigned and then the employee arranges tasks
in order to complete
duties. Most problem-solving is accomplished in conjunction with
supervisor. Some decisions
not affecting other departments may be made independently. All purchase
requests must be
approved by supervisor. Regular and reliable attendance at work is
expected.
Interaction: Frequent interaction with employees throughout the
organization and the general
public.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Three years of water operations or distribution systems experience,
required.
Three Years Supervisory Experience, Preferred.

Valid Kansas drivers license required, and driving record must meet
