Job summary

Saronic Technologies is a leader in autonomy at sea, delivering state-of-the-art MUSV platforms for contested littoral operations. The Senior Sustainment Engineer will own propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and hull systems, diagnose field faults, and mentor technicians to sustain platforms long-term.

The role requires hands-on marine engineering experience, knowledge of autonomous systems, and clear communication across technicians, engineers, and government stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marine/mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Active U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential as First Assistant Engineer (unlimited horsepower) or above with an unrestricted STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW).
  • 10+ years of experience in marine engineering maintaining propulsion, electrical, or mechanical systems aboard vessels in U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Navy, or Special Operations.
  • Experience leading shipboard engineering watches/maintenance teams.
  • Proven ability to lead maintenance training programs for military personnel.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with decision-making under pressure in field environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; experience authoring manuals and reports.
  • Active clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance on propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and hull systems in shore-based and forward-deployed environments.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex faults; lead repairs to restore mission readiness within timelines.
  • Conduct pre- and post-mission inspections for integrity, watertight condition, and safety.
  • Own maintenance logs, records, and configuration status; ensure compliance with standards.
  • Lead spare parts inventory and OEM/vendor coordination for critical components.
  • Author and maintain maintenance SOPs, manuals, troubleshooting guides, and emergency procedures.
  • Coordinate with operators on waterspace deconfliction, safety boat integration, and range safety during tests.
  • Liaise with Mission Operations/Maintenance and Product/Engineering to drive reliability improvements; represent at reviews.
