Job summary

The New York City Office of Technology and Innovation is seeking a Senior User Researcher to lead end-to-end research on the SPEED team, with a focus on creating systems to shorten new construction permitting. You will recruit New Yorkers, synthesize insights, and deliver actionable recommendations to the product team and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include representing research to leadership, establishing research operations, and ensuring rigorous mixed-methods approaches.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: degree(s) as listed above and required experience in related area.
• Preferred Skills: deep fluency across research methods, ability to recruit diverse participants, and strong communication to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end research (generative, evaluative, and mixed methods) and synthesize with desk research and analytics.
• Translate findings into actionable recommendations for product development and stakeholders.
• Represent user research to leadership and cross-functional teams in plain language.
• Recruit and conduct research with NYC residents who use government services, addressing accessibility barriers.
• Establish and maintain research operations and reusable methods/templates for the team.
• Review study designs and guardrails to ensure methodological quality.
• Define standards to ensure mixed-methods are rigorous for decisions.
• Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
