Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Sr. Planner - Urban Forestry Officer to support the Development Services Department in safeguarding the city’s urban forest.

The role reviews ordinances, issues permits, and inspects landscaping to ensure compliance with Zoning and Urban Forestry regulations while coordinating with property owners, developers, and design professionals. Ideal candidates hold a relevant degree, at least five years of planning/urban forestry experience, and a valid driver’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning/Urban Planning/Design/Forestry or related field.
• Five years of experience in planning/urban forestry or related field.
• Valid Driver’s License; no substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Verify city urban forestry and tree mitigation requirements are met.
• Work with property owners, developers, and designers to identify tree species and maximize preservation.
• Retain detailed site visit records and report to managers/executives.
• Coordinate urban forestry activities with divisions, departments, and outside agencies.
• Monitor and evaluate urban forestry programs and procedures.
• Provide information to citizens and develop presentations for neighborhoods.
• Supervise staff and approve time for direct reports.
• On-site inspections ~20% of workload; other duties as assigned.
