Job summary

Side is seeking a Senior Engine & Graphics Engineer on a contract basis to lead Unreal Engine 5 rendering and graphics optimisations. You will diagnose hard performance problems, work across engine and graphics systems, and deliver elegant technical solutions for multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Senior/Lead/Principal level experience in game engine and graphics programming.
• Expert Unreal Engine 5 knowledge, including rendering and performance tuning.
• Strong grasp of graphics fundamentals, GPUs, rendering pipelines, and shaders.
• Experience optimising real-time apps across PC/console hardware.
• Excellent C++ programming skills for low-level engines.
• Ability to work autonomously and deliver solutions with minimal direction.
• Strong communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Passion for solving hard engineering problems and improving performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimisation of core engine, rendering, and graphics systems within Unreal Engine 5.
• Profile, analyse, and resolve CPU/GPU/memory/performance challenges across projects.
• Partner with gameplay engineers, technical artists, and content teams to identify bottlenecks.
• Own performance strategy and provide technical direction across projects.
• Contribute to engine-level development, rendering pipelines, and low-level systems.
• Serve as a senior technical advisor to internal teams and clients.
• Identify challenges early and drive solutions with minimal oversight.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence through code reviews.
