Job summary

Old Republic Commercial Risk is seeking a Lead Underwriting Assistant in Center Square, PA. The role focuses on mentoring Underwriting Assistants and Submissions staff while ensuring accurate workflows and timely underwriting support.

You will coach, train, and develop the team, oversee documentation and quality control, and partner with management on onboarding and staffing needs to drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
• A minimum of 10 years of work experience in the Insurance Industry.
• In-depth knowledge of policy terms and conditions.
• Experience mentoring a team of Underwriting Assistants or similar staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience in training and mentoring employees is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentorship and day-to-day support to Underwriting Assistants and Submissions staff, promoting productivity and growth.
• Coordinate workflow, prioritize tasks, balance workloads, and communicate needs to management for timely completion.
• Provide coaching, training, and feedback to support staff development and communicate observations to management.
• Identify training needs and develop training materials and resources for staff success.
• Lead or participate in team meetings to communicate objectives and address challenges.
• Oversee workflow processes including submission clearance, data entry, file creation, documentation, and quality control to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on systems, forms, and procedures, guiding inquiries and supporting underwriting operations.
• Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer service.
• Partner with management on onboarding and training activities and workforce planning.
• Collaborate with underwriters to prepare documentation and perform quality control reviews.
