Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States is seeking an experienced underwriter to evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business in line with guidelines and risk appetite. You will analyze risk data to set coverage, pricing, and terms while collaborating with actuaries, agents, and clients to gather necessary information.

The role involves ordering and reviewing reports, ensuring documentation and regulatory compliance, and seeking renewal opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance or related field or equivalent experience.
• Generally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting or related field.
• Completion of or progress toward professional designation preferred (AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, ARM).
• Familiar with moderately complex concepts, practices and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of company policies and industry laws and regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Strong negotiation and decision-making ability.
• Position requires occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and underwrites new and renewal business per guidelines and risk appetite.
• Analyzes risk data for coverage, pricing, and terms.
• Collaborates with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients for information.
• Orders and reviews reports and inspections (e.g., motor vehicle, loss history).
• Ensures documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with regulations.
• Evaluates existing policies for renewal or modification.
• Communicates underwriting decisions to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
• Keeps updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
• Develops and maintains relationships to generate and retain profitable business.
• Interprets, explains, and markets products and services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
