Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in life insurance underwriting, New Business, case management, brokerage operations, or insurance operations.
  • Strong understanding of life insurance underwriting principles and New Business processes.
  • Experience working with multiple life insurance carriers and understanding varying underwriting approaches and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of life insurance products, including term, whole life, universal life, indexed universal life, and variable life.
  • Experience supporting financial advisors or working within a brokerage, financial services, or wealth management environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex life insurance and annuity cases from application through underwriting, placement, and policy delivery.
  • Develop effective underwriting strategies for challenging cases and identify solutions that improve placement success.
  • Anticipate potential obstacles and proactively address issues before they impact the client experience.
  • Partner with carrier underwriters, medical vendors, advisors, and internal teams to resolve complex or time-sensitive situations.
  • Analyze underwriting offers and help advisors understand ratings, requirements, case options, and next steps.
  • Serve as a senior resource and escalation point for complex underwriting and operational issues.
  • Maintain clear, proactive communication with advisors and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of each case.
  • Share expertise and provide coaching, guidance, and technical support to members of the New Business team.
  • Assist with case reviews, quality assurance efforts, workload balancing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, communication, and the overall advisor experience.
  • Support the development of best practices and contribute to a culture of collaboration, learning, and accountability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carrier underwriting and New Business teams.
  • Help design and deliver educational programs for financial advisors and their staff.
  • Provide training on underwriting fundamentals, carrier expectations, case preparation, and best practices.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource who helps advisors navigate complex underwriting scenarios with confidence.

Baystate Financial is seeking a Senior Underwriting & New Business Consultant to play a critical role in helping advisors deliver exceptional solutions to their clients.

In this highly visible position, you'll serve as a trusted resource for financial advisors, carrier partners, and our New Business team while managing complex life insurance and annuity cases from submission through policy delivery. Beyond case management, you'll have the opportunity to mentor team members, improve processes, develop training programs, and help shape underwriting strategies that drive successful outcomes.

What You'll Do
