Job summary

Liberis is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join the US Underwriting team from Atlanta. You will assess higher-complexity funding applications, coach colleagues, and help shape our US underwriting approach while protecting Liberis’ risk profile.

Reporting to the Senior Underwriting Manager in Atlanta, you’ll lead case discussions, document decisions, and support onboarding with practical underwriting expertise, balancing customer outcomes and risk.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of underwriting experience in small-business finance or similar lending environment.
• Proven track record making independent credit decisions with clear, evidence-based reasoning.
• Strong knowledge of cash-flow analysis, affordability, financial statements, credit bureau information, fraud indicators, and debt structures.
• Demonstrated experience coaching or mentoring colleagues and giving constructive feedback.
• Ability to provide thought leadership and influence decisions across teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex credit decisions to varied audiences.
• Sharp attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities and high application volumes.

Responsibilities

• Independently assess new and repeat funding applications using bank statements, credit bureau data, financial statements, and other information to make well-supported decisions.
• Exercise delegated approval authority with clear documentation and escalation when appropriate.
• Serve as a referral/ escalation point for underwriters and business stakeholders on complex or high-risk applications.
• Coach and mentor underwriters through discussions, reviews, feedback, and calibration.
• Support onboarding and ongoing development by sharing practical underwriting knowledge and modeling high standards.
• Partner with customers and internal teams to gather information and communicate underwriting decisions clearly.
• Provide underwriting thought leadership by identifying portfolio trends, risks, and opportunities to strengthen policies and decision quality.
• Lead or support process improvements and ad-hoc analyses to improve efficiency while balancing customer experience and risk.
