Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business according to company guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Analyze risk data to determine coverage, pricing, and terms.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to gather information and clarify details.
  • Order and review reports such as motor vehicle reports, loss histories, and inspections.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with insurance regulations.
  • Assess existing policies for renewal or modifications.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulations, and market conditions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with agents, brokers, and clients.
  • Market products and services appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This role offers potential advancement within the Underwriting Career Path, up to a Senior Underwriting Specialist.
  • The position can be remote in central or northern Virginia or based in Gainesville, GA, with a hybrid work setup (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).

Job Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years in underwriting or a related field. Professional designations such as AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM are preferred.

Qualifications:

Ability to work under general supervision, familiarity with industry practices, strong communication, analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills. Occasional travel required.
