Atradius Trade Credit Insurance, Inc. in Maryland seeks a Senior Underwriter to join our US Risk Services group. You will evaluate and approve limit requests, set risk thresholds, and craft underwriting strategies while maintaining portfolio risk through ongoing analysis.

We offer a hybrid in-person/remote schedule, with a competitive annual salary of $80,000–$100,000 plus a bonus potential, generous PTO, and comprehensive health and retirement benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years in commercial credit or lending and financial analysis.
• Master’s degree or credit/finance certificate preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to update directors.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and approve new limit requests within delegated authorities while applying underwriting principles and procedures in line with corporate governance.
• Establish credit insurance exposure thresholds for aggregate risk appetite and maintain risk scores/ratings on buyers.
• Set and articulate underwriting strategies for each known buyer group, buyer and sector.
• Monitor portfolio exposure and adjust risk management to optimize claims ratio.
• Prepare and present recommendations to Credit Committee for risks exceeding thresholds.
• Serve as Risk liaison to commercial team, brokers & customers, managing expectations around risk appetite.
• Participate in calls and visits to enhance portfolio risk management.
• Ad-hoc project specific deliverables as required.

Job Description

Through its US subsidiary, Atradius Trade Credit Insurance Inc, an opportunity exists for an experienced credit professional to join our Underwriting Team as a Senior Underwriter. For the right individual, this is an opportunity to work together in a professional environment where everyone’s contribution is valued.

In this position your key responsibilities will be:

• Evaluate and approve new limit requests within delegated authorities while applying underwriting principles and procedures in line with corporate governance.
• Establish credit insurance exposure thresholds for aggregate risk appetite and accurately maintain risk scores/ratings on buyers within delegated authorities
• Set and articulate underwriting strategies for each known buyer group, buyer and sector within the portfolio
• Monitor the exposure development of the portfolio and modify the underwriting risk management approach as necessary based on the continual risk assessment of the market, sector, and buyer to optimize the claims ratio
• Prepare and present formal recommendations to the Credit Committee based on fundamental credit analysis for customer requests exceeding specific risk thresholds
• Serve as the Risk liaison to commercial team, brokers, and customers, managing expectations around risk underwriting, pending Credit Committee decisions, and recommended risk appetite.
• Participate in any relevant calls and buyer or customer visits to enhance portfolio risk management and excellence
• Ad-hoc project specific deliverables as required

Technical Skills include:

• Identify appropriate market intelligence to support sustainable and real-time underwriting strategies.
• Analyze corporate financial statements, annual reports and press reports to establish an opinion on the underlying creditworthiness of risks assumed.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of all components of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow & accompanying notes)
• Leverage soft credit information using credit rating methodology, proprietary information sources, industry specific credit bureaus, and bottom-up Underwriting strategies to maximize Risk Excellence.

What qualification should you have?

• A bachelor’s degree in business, finance or economics, and 5 years of commercial credit and/or commercial lending experience with an emphasis on financial analysis.
• Master’s degree and/or Credit/Finance Certificate from an accredited organization.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are critical for the position as you will be providing regular updates and recommendations to our Risk and Country Directors.

What do we offer?

• Annual Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 based on experience and location, plus potential annual bonus.
• Hybrid in-person/remote work schedule with periodic ‘all hands’ office days required
• Generous paid time off policy with a minimum of three weeks of vacation for all regular, full-time employees plus 11 scheduled and 8 floating holidays, and 45 hours of sick leave annually.
• Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for eligible employees, inclusive of birth, adoption, or foster/child placement. Eligibility and duration vary by years of service and applicable policy.
