Job summary

Sompo Holdings, Inc. is seeking a Senior Underwriter for the Primary Retail Casualty unit. You will leverage deep technical knowledge across casualty lines and manage risk for large accounts across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

The role involves analyzing submissions, pricing strategies, and detailed file documentation while building strong broker relationships. Based in multiple offices (New York, NY; Charlotte, NC; Purchase, NY; Garden City, NY; Morristown, NJ) with travel up to 25%, this role

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably casualty lines.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Experience with large brokerage houses, regional agencies, and specialty retail brokers.
• Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted underwriting expert across a broad range of casualty products and industries.
• Analyze submissions, evaluate risk exposures, and make timely underwriting decisions.
• Apply advanced pricing and rating methodologies for varied program structures (Guaranteed Cost, Captives, SIRs, Deductibles).
• Develop profitable pricing strategies through financial, exposure, and market analysis.
• Prepare underwriting recommendations, rate modifications, referrals, and declinations.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers and agency partners; represent Sompo in meetings and events.
