Job summary

Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group (BMAG) is seeking a Senior Underwriter to strengthen relationships with independent agents, drive profitable growth, and manage risk within authority. You will quote, rate, and place commercial property/casualty business while leveraging underwriting tools and data analysis.

You will collaborate across teams to improve renewal retention and achieve premium goals, with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, and high customer satisfaction within our Mid-Atlantic footprint.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree preferred.
• 4+ years of Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining positive relationships.
• Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset.
• Analytical thinker able to propose solutions.
• High-energy self-starter with resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.
• Ability to sell and influence others.
• Proficient with Windows programs (Word, Excel, Email).
• Experience with online underwriting tools (e.g. Silver Plume, Reference Connect).
• Advanced professional insurance coursework preferred (CPCU/AU).

Responsibilities

• Strengthen relationships with agents to drive profitable growth.
• Achieve new business and renewal premium objectives.
• Evaluate risk and determine terms/quotes within underwriting authority.
• Use underwriting tools to classify risk, set limits, and price appropriately.
• Review inspections to confirm written accounts align with underwriting information.
• Determine need for facultative reinsurance and document procedures.
