Job summary

Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group (BMAG) seeks a Senior Underwriter to strengthen agency relationships, grow written premium, and maximize renewal retention across our Mid-Atlantic footprint. You will evaluate new and renewal business, determine risk acceptability, price within guidelines, and collaborate with independent agents to deliver profitable growth.

A BA/BS and 4+ years in Commercial Property & Casualty are preferred.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree preferred.
• 4+ years of experience as an Underwriter in Commercial Property & Casualty.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining positive relationships.
• Excellent communication skills, including listening for solutions.
• Demonstrates a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and present in a way that influences others.

Responsibilities

• Strengthens relationships with agents to maximize opportunities and achieve profitable growth.
• Achieves new business premium, renewal premium retention and rate change objectives.
• Within guidelines and authority, evaluates risk and prices quotes.
• Uses underwriting tools to determine risk characteristics, exposure classifications, and appropriate limits.
• Reviews inspections to ensure consistency with underwriting information and addresses unacceptable risk characteristics.
• Determines if facultative reinsurance is needed and documents procedures.
