Job summary

QBE Insurance Group Limited is hiring a Senior Underwriter to join the D&F Property London team. The role focuses on underwriting complex Direct & Facultative Property risks with international exposure, building appetite, strategy, and broker relationships.

You will contribute to the business plan, maintain market insight, and ensure underwriting standards and regulatory alignment while collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Experience in Property Underwriting, International or US markets.
• A deep understanding of property wordings, structures and programme design.
• Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset with growth experience.
• Strong negotiation, communication and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to engage with brokers and senior stakeholders.
• Proven leadership and senior underwriting credibility.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Direct & Facultative Property risks, including complex international business.
• Help define appetite, focus areas and strategy for the D&F Property portfolio.
• Build relationships with London Market and international brokers to position QBE as a long-term partner.
• Contribute to business planning for profitable and sustainable growth.
• Serve as a senior technical referral point with underwriting judgment and market insight.
• Ensure activity aligns with underwriting standards, reinsurance strategy and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with underwriting, operations and leadership as the proposition evolves.

The opportunity

Underwrite Direct & Facultative Property risks, with exposure to complex, international businessPlay a key role in the establishment and growth of the D&F Property portfolio, helping define appetite, focus areas and strategyBuild and strengthen relationships with London Market and international brokers, positioning QBE as a credible, long-term D&F partnerContribute to the development and delivery of the business plan, supporting profitable and sustainable growthAct as a senior technical referral point, bringing strong underwriting judgement and market insightMaintain a strong understanding of market dynamics, capacity and pricing across the D&F Property spaceEnsure underwriting activity aligns with QBE's underwriting standards, reinsurance strategy and regulatory requirementsWork closely with internal stakeholders across underwriting, operations and leadership as the proposition evolves.

About you

Experience within Property Underwriting, International or USDeep technical understanding of Property wordings, structures and programme designA commercial and entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable operating in a build and growth environmentConfidence and credibility when engaging with brokers and senior stakeholdersExcellent negotiation, communication and decision-making skillsA collaborative approach, with the gravitas expected at senior underwriter levelHaving the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
