Job summary

Eagle Mine in Michigan is seeking an experienced Underground Survey Engineer to ensure all mining progress is accurately surveyed and to create digital solids and maps for development and production areas.

You will supervise survey processes, maintain control networks, and approve level and drill/blast mark-ups, with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency. Underground experience and proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan and Ventsim are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Survey or Survey Engineering.
  • 3-7 years of professional experience (underground preferred).
  • Experience in Cut and Fill, and Longhole Stoping mining methods preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with mining software and database management (e.g. Deswik, Vulcan, and Ventsim).
  • Experience with drone survey preferred.

Job description

MAIN PURPOSE:

Ensure all mining progress is accurately surveyed and recorded, and that digital solids and maps are created. Ensure accurate control is established to all development and production areas within the underground operation.

Main Responsibilities/Activities
  • Promoting and providing safety leadership throughout all areas of influence
  • Supervise the use of and seek to continually improve all survey processes to achieve specified goals, cost and safety targets
  • Maintain accurate survey control database network
  • Approve level design mark-ups and ensure accuracy of surveys
  • Approve drill and blast hole design mark-ups and ensure accuracy of surveys
  • Identify and manage all mining void solids
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution of drill and blast reconciliation reports for all underground production headings and stopes
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution of monthly survey reports for all production headings, COSA and surface piles.
  • Oversee InSAR surface monitoring, and ensure reporting is updated.
  • Mentoring and supervision of Underground Survey Technicians
  • Provide support to the Mining Engineers as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Qualifications And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Survey or Survey Engineering; appropriate combination of education and experience may be acceptable in lieu of degree requirements.
  • 3-7 years of professional experience (technical and/or operations); underground experience preferred.
  • Experience in Cut and Fill, and Longhole Stoping mining methods preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong computer skills and previous experience with mining software and database management (e.g. Deswik, Vulcan, and Ventsim).
  • Understanding of mine planning principles and practices, preferred
  • Experience with drone survey preferred

  • Report all incidents; including but not limited to injuries, near miss, community interactions and impacts, environmental impacts, spills, unsafe work practices, etc.
