Job summary

Rio Tinto's Kennecott mine near Salt Lake City, Utah, invites a Senior Engineer - Underground Mining to lead planning, design, scheduling and optimization of underground operations. You will report to the Principal Engineer - Underground Mine Planning and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust life-of-mine plans.

Responsibilities include developing integrated mine plans, coordinating major underground infrastructure projects, and producing quarterly forecasts while mentoring

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Demonstrated underground mining experience with strong mine planning background.
• Strong technical understanding of underground mining practices and their impact on value chain outcomes.
• Ability to develop practical, innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead long-range mine planning and scheduling across life-of-mine horizons using optimization tools and scenario modelling.
• Develop integrated underground/open pit mine plans to optimize site-wide resource utilization.
• Plan and schedule major underground infrastructure projects (ventilation, pumping, dewatering, paste fill).
• Ensure short- and mid-range plans align with long-term objectives and priorities.
• Produce quarterly forecast and budget mine plans to support operational outcomes.
• Provide cost modelling, sensitivity analysis and planning recommendations for decisions.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and develop engineers to ensure successful plan delivery.
