Job summary

San Diego State University Research Foundation in San Diego, CA seeks an Undergraduate III (Senior) to provide trace metal chemistry analytical support for NIWC ENVVEST projects. The role is 20 hours per week for student performers.

The position focuses on LC/MS and ICP-MS analysis of environmental samples, data processing, and report preparation, with strict QA/QC procedures and access to laboratory equipment. US citizenship and DoD security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student in Marine Biology, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science or Chemistry.
• Senior-level with ability to complete 90% of tasks independently.
• Experience or coursework in environmental chemistry and laboratory QA/QC.

Responsibilities

• Mobilize and prepare equipment for field and lab testing.
• Perform sample prep, digestions, extractions and LC/MS analysis for PCBs, PAHs, PFAS.
• Process data with Xcalibur and Chromeleon, and assist in reporting.
• Maintain lab space and perform ICP-MS measurements of trace metals.
• Support literature searches and contribute to report preparation.
