Job summary

San Diego State University Research Foundation seeks an undergraduate student contractor to provide analytical chemistry support for NIWC Pacific environmental projects. You will work on water and sediment samples using LC/MS and ICP-MS, assisting with QA/QC and data interpretation.

Responsibilities include sample preparation, instrument operation, data processing in Xcalibur, Chromeleon and Excel, literature searches, and contributing to sponsor reports.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student at the senior level with ability to perform 90% of the work independently.
• Majoring in Marine Biology, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science and/or Chemistry.
• Must be able to obtain DoD Secret clearance and reside in California.

Responsibilities

• Mobilize and prepare equipment for field and laboratory testing.
• Perform sample preparation, digestions, extractions, and LC/MS analysis for PCBs, PAHs, PFAS.
• Process data with Xcalibur, Chromeleon and Compound Discoverer.
• Maintain lab space and perform ICP-MS for trace metals and mercury analysis.
• Data analysis using Excel and statistical software.
• Maintain laboratory facilities and assist in report preparation.
