Job summary

Dorsett Controls is hiring a Senior Control Panel Builder to lead the building, wiring, and testing of industrial control panels on UL 508A standards. You will mentor junior technicians and partner with engineering to ensure quality and compliance.

Based in Vinton, VA, this on-site role requires UL 508A certification and 5+ years of panel-building experience. You will read schematics, work with NFPA/NEC requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement and documentation for audits.

Qualifications

• UL 508A certification and hands-on experience in a UL 508A panel shop.
• 5+ years building and wiring industrial control panels.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and panel layout drawings.
• Knowledge of NFPA 79 and NEC/NFPA 70 as they apply to control panels.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong attention to detail and neat, clearly labeled panels.

Responsibilities

• Build, wire, and assemble control panels from schematics and BOMs.
• Ensure panels meet UL 508A, NFPA 79, NEC/NFPA 70, and internal standards.
• Perform point-to-point wiring, labeling, testing, and verification.
• Assemble and wire complex panels with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with engineers to resolve design questions and standardize designs.
• Mentor junior technicians and review their work for quality and best practices.
• Maintain UL 508A shop files, build documents, and audit records.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and manage inventory.
• Prepare completed panels for shipment and operate forklift as needed.
• Support continuous improvement and 5S initiatives in the shop.
