Job summary

AeroVironment in Moorpark, California is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our design team focused on next-generation UAV systems.

You will apply engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, and other mechanical equipment, spanning concept to detailed design and build/testing. The role requires 5–8 years of experience, a Mechanical or Aerospace degree, and hands-on prototyping with thermal analysis and electro-mechanical design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required.
• 5-8 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems.
• Experience designing machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal parts.
• Hands-on building/prototyping experience on lightweight robotic systems.
• Experience with thermo‑dynamic constraints in electro‑mechanical designs.
• Proficiency with ASME Y14 drawing practices and SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components, electro-mechanical design, payload mechanical design, ground equipment mechanical design, launching systems, flight control actuators integration, thermal analysis, prototype hardware development, tooling and fixtures design.
• Reads and interprets blueprints and schematics; assists project managers with planning and scheduling.
• Confer with engineers to implement procedures, resolve malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Develop manufacturing drawings and BOMs per drafting standards.
• Researches data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance needs of designs.
• Support design reviews, planning, scheduling, and supplier manufacturing.
