Job summary

The University of New Mexico-Gallup is seeking a Sr Tutor to work in the Center for Academic Learning (CAL). The role centers on providing tutoring across diverse student groups and guiding tutors to meet varied learning needs.

Responsibilities include developing and overseeing tutorial programs, facilitating labs, and maintaining confidential records in compliance with ethical and legal standards. Promotion includes involvement in CAL administration.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
• Experience coordinating or providing tutoring services to at-risk student populations; higher education experience; diverse student population.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic tutoring services to a wide variety of individuals and groups throughout our diverse student body.
• Lead and coordinate the activities of peer and professional tutors in strategies to accommodate alternative learning styles and disabilities.
• Create and guide and oversee the creation and implementation of tutorial and supplemental instruction programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing, and test preparation.
• Facilitate reading and writing labs to develop writing, math, word processing, study, and other academic skills.
• Maintain and update confidential files and records, ensuring that ethical and legal guidelines are maintained.
• Research and select learning materials, textbooks, software, and equipment to facilitate tutoring; may design specific handout, study, and related materials.
• Participate in the overall administration of the Center for Academic Learning.
