Job description

At Air Products, we reimagine what’s possible. By tapping into the motivation of our people and our collective experience, we create the ideas and innovations that drive us forward. When we come together – where every voice is heard and everyone knows they belong and matter – we create solutions that launch people into space, support lifesaving care in hospitals, and enable the construction of groundbreaking, world scale production facilities.

Reimagine What’s Possible Air Products is seeking a Senior Turbomachinery Aerodynamic Engineer to join our Rotoflow® business in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In this hands‑on engineering design role, you will deliver advanced aerodynamic designs, performance predictions, and engineering tool improvements for turboexpanders, centrifugal compressors, and related turbomachinery systems.

This position follows a hybrid work arrangement with four days per week in the office and requires minimal travel, typically less than 10%.

Rotoflow®, an Air Products business, combines deep turbomachinery expertise with Air Products’ industrial gas capabilities. We develop new equipment, aftermarket services, and engineered solutions for cryogenic and warm gas centrifugal turbomachinery used in industrial gas, hydrocarbon, LNG, and petrochemical applications.

Our portfolio includes compressor‑loaded turboexpanders, generator‑loaded power recovery expanders, and custom‑engineered rotating equipment designed for performance, efficiency, reliability, safety, and value.

You will work across the equipment lifecycle, from proposal development and aerodynamic sizing through detailed design, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of aerodynamic analysis tools, collaborate with experienced turbomachinery engineers, and apply advanced aerodynamic design methods to challenging customer applications.

What We Offer: At Air Products we foster a culture of inclusion where every voice is heard, and everyone feels they belong and matter. Additionally, we offer competitive pay and great benefits for our employees.

Check out some of our benefits below!

  • Affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance available day one of employment
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with immediate vesting of company match and core contributions
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time
  • Paid parental leave
  • Adoption assistance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (medical, dependent daycare)
  • Health Savings Account
  • Life Insurance (AD&D), Supplemental AD&D
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform aerodynamic design activities for awarded customer projects, including flowpath optimization of impellers, vanes, centrifugal compressors, turboexpanders, and related rotating equipment to improve efficiency, performance, and operating range.
  • Perform preliminary aerodynamic sizing and performance calculations during the proposal phase, then refine analyses through final equipment definition and project execution.
  • Apply the appropriate level of analytical fidelity, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD), 2D and quasi-3D methods, 1D performance calculations, and aerodynamic performance mapping techniques.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of aerodynamic engineering tools, sizing methods, performance prediction models, and workflows to increase calculation accuracy, consistency, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with aerodynamic, simulation, product, proposals, process, and manufacturing engineers, as well as external software providers when appropriate.
  • Share best practices and technical expertise with other engineers to support consistency in high‑efficiency designs and analysis methods.
  • Support new product development and continuously improve the efficiency, performance, cost, and competitiveness of existing products and project solutions.
  • Contribute throughout the equipment lifecycle, including equipment testing, data analysis, field commissioning, startup support, aftermarket activities, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis.
  • Apply fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, compressible flow, and turbomachinery engineering fundamentals to develop practical solutions for complex aerodynamic challenges.
  • Advocate for aerodynamic considerations while collaborating across disciplines to optimize the overall system solution.
  • Promote safety, diversity, inclusion, collaboration, and continuous learning consistent with the values of Air Products and Rotoflow.
Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of turbomachinery aerodynamics, compressible flow, flowpath optimization, aerodynamic performance, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and turbomachinery performance prediction.
