Job summary

Self-Help for the Elderly in San Francisco is seeking a Group Van Driver to transport program participants to activities, meals, and events with a focus on safety and reliability.

The role requires a valid CA Class C (preferably Class B) license, two years of driving experience, and a passion for serving seniors and people with disabilities. You will work the full-time schedule, with pre-employment checks and required certifications.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with at least two years of work experience required. Experience working with the elderly is preferred.
• Must have and maintain a valid CA Class C driver license, preferably a Commercial Class B driver license. Minimum two years of driving experience with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must have an interest in working with seniors and adults with disabilities. Ability to work in a team environment.
• Fluent in English, or fluent in Chinese including some English.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Must have a Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification by the end of the 3-month introductory period.
• Must pass specific training as required by San Francisco Paratransit by the end of the 3-month introductory period.
• Possess good communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Picks up and transports program participants for program activities and events.
• Adheres to driver operating standards and procedures as required by San Francisco Paratransit.
• Observes the specific conditions and needs of clients, especially safety on the bus. Provides appropriate assistance and referrals.
• Inspect and maintains the vehicles in good condition and keeps appropriate record-keeping of all services, vehicle inspection reports, and usage/mileage.
• Maintains accurate usage of Mobile Data Computer and reports malfunction.
• Attends driving safety and in-service training as required.
• Assists in the Home Delivered Meals operation.
• Assists in the agency fundraising and department activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
