Job summary

VDOT is seeking an Engineering Survey Technician to conduct field surveys for transportation projects. You will use survey, CADD, and DTMs, ensure compliance with policies, and secure data through various equipment from scoping to post-construction.

You will support the Location and Design Division, manage project files, perform quality control in field and office, and coordinate information with team members to advance project objectives.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with customers.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in all types of terrain and weather conditions.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, deeds, plats, road and bridge standards, and property records.
• Knowledge of field survey equipment.
• Knowledge of surveying principles and practices including location, right of way and construction survey activities.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications including CADD.
• Skill in the use of surveying instruments and tools including programmable calculators and electronic data collection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct a wide range of field survey activities for transportation projects from scoping to post-construction.
• Follow VDOT policies and APELSCIDLA rules and regulations governing survey activities.
• Use surveying equipment to locate and record field data; perform courthouse research on plats.
• Perform quality control reviews of work products, in field and office, to ensure accuracy.
• Coordinate information flow to contribute to project development and schedule alignment.
