Job summary

HDR provides transportation leadership to design resilient highways, bridges, rail, and aviation. The Senior Transportation Project Manager will lead multi-discipline teams, manage complex projects, and maintain strong client relations while guiding financial performance and QA/QC across the project lifecycle.

The role supports remote work flexibility and contributes to HDR’s employee-owned culture. Required: Engineering degree, 10+ years related experience, 5+ years PM, PE license, and strong

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is expected.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate multi-discipline project teams across the lifecycle.
  • Manage large projects or complex medium projects with substantial staff.
  • Handle multiple projects concurrently and deliver on schedule.
  • Lead client relations, marketing, contracting, design and production meetings.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload; ensure deliverables meet budget and schedule.
  • Track financials and perform periodic project reviews with leadership.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures and mentor junior project managers.
  • Support remote work flexibility as needed.

In the role of Senior Transportation Project Manager, we’ll count on you to:

  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project’s lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
  • Responsible for all aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, involving a large project staff
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Your project management will support a wide variety of projects including county projects, municipalities, small and large DOT projects, and large national projects
  • Collaborate and support cross-discipline projects with our Water and Building Engineering Services business groups that involve roadway staff
  • Establish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Work with the Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Supervise large project staffs and act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Flexibility to work remote

  • A minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
