Job summary

Nitsch Engineering seeks a Senior Transportation Planning Project Manager to lead projects in MA offices: Boston, Worcester, or Lawrence. You will oversee transportation planning for local and state clients, manage teams, and drive business development while delivering high-quality results.

As part of an employee-owned firm, you’ll contribute to a collaborative culture, mentor staff, and participate in an annual bonus program based on performance and role responsibilities.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required; PE or AICP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee transportation planning projects for local and state government clients (MassDOT, City of Boston, municipal agencies).
• Lead business development efforts to expand municipal client base and regional/state Transportation Planning work.
• Develop and maintain relationships with MassDOT and regional planning agencies (MAPC, NMCOG, CMRPC).
• Staff and supervise project team, coordinate subconsultants, mentor staff, and ensure client satisfaction.
• Perform technical quality control reviews and oversee milestone and final submissions.
• Manage Feasibility Studies, Safety Action Plans, Conceptual Design Development, and Corridor Studies.
• Lead public involvement and community outreach; present reports to stakeholders.
• Develop proposals and represent the firm at conferences and professional organizations.
• Promote professional development of existing staff.

Job description

Nitsch Engineering is seeking a Senior Transportation Planning Project Manager to join our team at one of our three Massachusetts offices: Boston, Worcester, or Lawrence. As we continue to grow our market share, we strive to position ourselves and build on our successful model of client delivery by expanding our transportation engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee all aspects of transportation planning projects for local and state government clients (MassDOT, City of Boston, Municipal Agencies, and regional transportation planning agencies)
• Lead business development efforts to expand municipal client base, and expand Transportation Planning work at the regional and state level
• Develop and maintain relationships with MassDOT Office of Transportation Planning staff, and at regional transportation planning agencies (i.e. MAPC, NMCOG, CMRPC, etc.)
• Staff and supervise the project team (including subconsultants), coordinating their efforts, mediating any disagreements, mentoring staff, and making decisions which reflect the best interest of both the company and its clients
• Perform technical quality control reviews
• Prepare and oversee the preparation of milestone and final submissions
• Manage Transportation Feasibility Studies, Safety Action Plans, Conceptual Design Development and Alternative Analysis, Vision Zero Plans, and Corridor Studies
• Lead public involvement and community outreach efforts
• Oversee the preparation of Transportation Planning and engineering reports
• Develop new business and serve as the face of Nitsch for conferences and professional organizations
• Lead and advocate for the professional development of existing staff

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering
• AICP certification, OR Massachusetts Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain one within one year if currently licensed in another state)
• 15+ years of experience in Transportation Planning
• Knowledge of project management roles and responsibilities and a history of successful client management
• Ability to see the big picture and create staffing plans to adequately staff both current and future projects
• Experience in performing and overseeing analysis and design, preparing calculations, developing details, preparing specifications and estimates as well as managing the preparation of bid documents is required
• Understanding of project metrics, including scope, budget, multiplier, additional service needs, and programs used to track metrics
• Experience with construction administration services including interpreting design intent, evaluating construction for compliance with contract documents, and directing of engineering support personnel
• Experience in preparing proposals, business development, and the ability to make public presentations
