Job summary

ERM seeks a Principal Consultant, Planning Engineer / Transportation based in Washington, DC, offering hybrid work. You will lead transportation analyses, develop ESIA-related methodologies, and shape major capital projects aligned with energy transition goals.

You will mentor staff, expand ERM's transportation planning capabilities, and engage clients on international initiatives while ensuring compliance with US standards and global sustainability benchmarks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years (10+ years preferred) in transportation planning/engineering for major capital projects.
• US work authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Lead multimodal transportation impact assessments for road, rail, vessel, and air across projects.
• Develop methodologies aligned with NEPA, FHWA/FTA guidance, and state/local regulations.
• Contribute to proposals by defining scope, methodology, and level of effort for transportation components.
• Build and strengthen client relationships while pursuing new transportation planning opportunities.
• Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.
• Occasional travel for client meetings and field reviews.
