Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Planning Engineer / Transportation to lead multimodal transportation analyses for major U.S. projects and deliver IFC-compliant ESIA for international initiatives.

This hybrid role based in Washington, DC offers strategic influence and mentorship opportunities. You will shape methodologies, contribute to proposals, expand ERM’s transportation planning capabilities through client engagement, and guide junior team members while traveling occasionally to field

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years (10+ preferred) in transportation planning/engineering for major projects.
• Strong knowledge of NEPA, FHWA/FTA guidance, HCM, MUTCD and state/local requirements.
• Authorization to work in the U.S.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead multimodal transportation impact assessments for major projects.
• Develop NEPA-compliant methodologies and align with regulations.
• Contribute to proposals by defining scope and level of effort.
• Build client relationships and pursue new opportunities.
• Mentor junior team members and foster collaboration.
• Occasional travel for client meetings.
