Job summary

Spencer Ogden in downtown Chicago seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a growing civil engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role that keeps you close to technical work while guiding design standards and staff development.

You will mentor engineers, oversee QA/QC, review roadway and drainage designs, and partner with Project Managers to ensure scope, schedule and budget alignment. A PE in Illinois and 10+ years of transportation experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• PE license in Illinois or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
• 10+ years of transportation engineering experience.
• Strong background in roadway/highway design.
• Experience with stormwater, drainage and grading.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical resource for engineers and technicians.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff.
• Provide hands-on guidance with complex transportation design challenges.
• Lead QA/QC reviews of plans, calculations, and construction docs.
• Review roadway, drainage and grading designs for quality and consistency.
• Troubleshoot engineering issues and remove project bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure scope, schedule and budget compliance.
• Help establish and maintain design standards and best practices.
• Foster knowledge-sharing and technical development across the team.
