Job summary

The City of Hillsboro seeks a Principal Engineer to lead a team of engineers implementing the Transportation System Plan. You will review land use traffic analyses, calibrate the travel demand model with Metro and county partners, and guide complex development projects while advising City leadership.

Ideal candidates bring strong communication skills, GIS experience, and a track record in multimodal transportation planning. Public service with a focus on safety and equity is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field; seven years civil eng. experience with 3+ years supervisory responsibilities.
• Oregon Professional Engineer licensure; ability to obtain Oregon license within 6 months if licensed elsewhere.

Responsibilities

• Scopes, reviews, and evaluates land use traffic impact analyses with findings and conditions of approval.
• Performs traffic analysis of roadways and intersections.
• Calibrates the city’s travel demand model with Metro and Washington County.
• Drafts amendments and updates to the Transportation System Plan.
• Manages contracts for transportation planning refinement projects.
• Collaborates across departments on land use and transportation projects.
• Represents the city in county, regional, and state forums and policy discussions.
• Prepares presentations for Planning Commission and City Council.
• Reviews or prepares legal documents such as annexation agreements and intergovernmental agreements.
• Responds to public questions on land use and transportation conditions.
• Supervises staff through mentoring and workload assignment.
