Job summary

GFT is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to join our Construction Services Team in Columbia, Charleston, or the Florence area. You will lead projects on transportation infrastructure, highways, bridges, and multimodal systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable travel.

The role requires 15–20 years of civil/construction engineering experience, a SC PE license or eligibility, and strong leadership. Hybrid work environment with comprehensive benefits is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from ABET-accredited school.
• Valid US driver’s license and willingness to drive to projects/meetings.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in South Carolina (SC).
• 15–20 years of civil/civil engineering/construction experience.
• Criminal background checks required due to clients (airports, municipalities, railroads).

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document project meetings with clients.
• Manage construction field personnel and teaming partners.
• Prepare construction contracts and cost estimates.
• Monitor project schedules and budgets.
• Prepare and issue reports and correspondence.
• Approve quantities for payment and payment applications.
• Negotiate and approve change orders.
• Resolve technical issues and perform constructability reviews.
• Lead risk management assessments and QA/QC plans.
• Develop SOPs and manage project teams.
• Ensure safety compliance and training.
• Oversee CEI activities and multiple projects as needed.
