Job summary

VHB's Transit and Rail group seeks a Senior Engineer to support railroad and rail transit projects. The role requires deep expertise in railroad design and a drive to grow with the business.

You will lead civil design on track, stations, layover facilities, and maintenance yards, develop specs and schedules, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients and regulatory bodies on design and permitting needs.

Qualifications

• 11+ years of experience in railroad and/or rail transit engineering design.
• Familiarity with AREMA recommended practices.
• Understanding of transportation agencies market.

Responsibilities

• Perform civil design on rail projects including track structure and drainage, alignment geometry, grade crossings, stations, layover facilities, and MOE/MOW yards.
• Support Project Development with concept, preliminary and final designs and documentation.
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Prepare technical reports and analyses.
• Assist in development of construction bid documents.
• Provide design support during construction.
• Collaborate in a multi-discipline team environment; lead, mentor and train junior staff.
• Manage project tasks and finances.
• Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
