Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Electronics Technician III (S) for the Traffic Services Unit in Stanly County. You will supervise signal technicians, manage maintenance of ITS devices, and ensure operations meet MUTCD standards and NCDOT specifications.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in electronics with 3 years of related experience, CDL with N endorsement or ability to obtain, and willingness to work nights and weekends for emergencies.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in electronics from an accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus.
• Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
• Pre-employment drug testing required and background checks; ability to check with previous employers for past 3 years about substances and alcohol testing.
• Ability to train personnel and supervise, plan and schedule work with minimal supervision, and operate safely in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the signal technicians in Division 10 Traffic Operations and manage maintenance of ITS devices.
• Coordinate contractor activities and technician inspections; investigate engineer and citizen requests and provide solutions meeting MUTCD/NCDOT specs.
• Diagnose malfunctions in traffic signal equipment, including microprocessor-based controllers and cabinets; perform installations and inspections.
• Schedule and plan maintenance within budgetary constraints using SAP; conduct performance reviews (NCVIP) and prioritize daily work.
• Operate a 24K signal bucket truck; assist in training personnel and ensure safety practices for night/weekend work.
