Job summary

The City of Raleigh's Traffic Engineering Division seeks a professional engineer to lead its Traffic Operations Division, overseeing Signs and Pavement Markings, Traffic Signals, and Signal Systems. You will provide strategic direction, manage programs, and coordinate with regional partners.

Responsibilities include budgeting, asset management, and development of long-range plans to keep Raleigh's traffic control system advanced, safe, and accessible to all residents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; 5–7 years in engineering, construction management or related work
• Professional Engineer (PE) Registration
• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
• Strong communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to prepare and manage operating and capital budgets
• Experience with asset management, performance monitoring, and reporting
• Collaborate with regional partners and coordinate with NCDOT on plans and initiatives

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the division's three programs
• Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets for personnel, equipment, tools, materials, and contracts
• Oversee asset management, performance monitoring, and reporting for traffic engineering assets
• Develop strategic plans to keep the traffic control system advanced, efficient, and safe
• Ensure programs comply with federal and state mandates
• Assist other divisions with technical expertise and review projects impacting division assets
• Collaborate with NCDOT and regional partners on long-term signal system expansion
