Job summary

Rinker Design Associates (RDA) in Virginia is seeking a Senior Traffic Manager to lead traffic design and operational analyses on innovative roadway and multimodal projects.

You will direct technical work, manage client and stakeholder communications, and mentor team members while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule goals. Qualifications

• BSCE required; Virginia PE preferred.
• Minimum 12 years of traffic engineering design experience.
• Strong knowledge of traffic design standards (VDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, HCM, PROWAG, HSM).
• Proven leadership and client/stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical development of traffic designs and analyses for roadway and multimodal projects.
• Oversee design quality, deliverables, and team performance.
• Lead project meetings and present traffic design aspects to clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with agencies, contractors, and internal teams to deliver solutions.
• Mentor staff and support project management to meet schedules and budgets.
• Develop ITS, signal designs, and signing/pavement marking plans.

Rinker Design Associates (RDA) is looking for a Senior Traffic Manager to help lead traffic design and operational analysis on innovative transportation projects across Virginia. In this role, you'll collaborate with a talented team, contribute to impactful multimodal solutions, and play a key part in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

What You'll Do

• Lead Technical Excellence: Direct and oversee the technical development of traffic designs and operational analyses for diverse and innovative roadway and multimodal projects. Ensure the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety in the design and analysis of traffic operations, signal systems, and complete streets for all modes of transportation—vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian.
• Drive Project Success: Lead project meetings, present traffic design aspects, and provide technical expertise to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Collaborate with Stakeholders: Engage with clients, agency representatives, contractors, and internal teams to deliver innovative traffic solutions.
• Ensure Quality and Standards: Maintain high standards for deliverables and perform quality control for team members' work.
• Support Project Management: Assist project managers in meeting schedule and budget goals while driving technical progress.
• Foster Innovation: Develop intelligent transportation systems, signal designs, interchange access reports, and signing and pavement marking plans.

What You'll Need

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required.
• Licensure: Registration as a P.E. in Virginia is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 12 years of experience in traffic engineering design.
• Expertise: Strong knowledge of traffic design standards and practices, including VDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, HCM, PROWAG, and HSM.
• Software Proficiency: Experience with design tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, Synchro, SIDRA and HCS is required.
• Team and Communication Skills: Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
