Job description

STV is seeking an energetic and highly motivated Senior Traffic Engineer / Project Manager for our Columbia or North Charleston, SC locations. The role involves providing leadership on traffic engineering projects, coordinating with various internal teams, and managing projects across North/South Carolina and other U.S. markets.

This position requires a minimum of 11 years of experience in Traffic Engineering and an interest in working with State DOTs, local governments, and the private sector.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

  • Lead technical services on traffic engineering and ITS projects, including traffic signal design, ITS design, signal timing, illumination, ADA/sidewalk design, signing, and pavement marking.
  • Conduct traffic engineering studies such as impact analyses, signal timing plans, simulation modeling, warrants, speed and capacity studies, safety, and parking analyses.
  • Develop final plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for projects with state and local agencies, collaborating with team members.
  • Prepare reports and presentations of project findings.
  • Mentor and train less experienced staff.
  • Manage tasks and interact with clients as needed.
  • Integrate into multiple project teams with overlapping schedules across different states.
  • Review work for accuracy, ensuring quality assurance and control.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Engage in business development and proposal development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • At least 11 years of relevant experience.
  • Registered South Carolina Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience in traffic signal design, timing, safety, operational, and capacity analyses.
  • Experience with traffic software such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, CORSIM, TransModeler, SIDRA, and transportation planning software like TransCAD and CUBE is a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation OpenRoads.
  • Data analysis and visualization skills with Power BI or Tableau are desirable.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with SC/NCDOT and local government projects is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.

Compensation Range:

$101,562.83 - $135,417.11
