Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer for a 6-month contract with a local authority. You will lead traffic and highway schemes, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, budgets, and quality standards.

The role involves planning, designing, and supervising project delivery from inception to completion. You will conduct studies, prepare technical documentation, and provide professional engineering advice while managing contractors and ensuring timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering traffic, highway, or transportation projects.
• Experience in traffic management design and project supervision.
• Experience preparing technical reports and contract documents.
• Experience managing project budgets and cost estimation.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Membership in ICE, CIHT, or IHE or working towards.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver traffic engineering projects within objectives, budgets, and timescales.
• Undertake traffic and transport studies, surveys, and investigations to support scheme development.
• Design and develop traffic management, highway improvement, and transport schemes.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
• Ensure all projects comply with relevant legislation, standards, and contracts.
• Monitor contractor performance and recommend tender acceptances where appropriate.

• The Senior Traffic Engineer is a pivotal role within a local authority, tasked with the effective delivery of traffic engineering projects and transport-related initiatives. This position ensures compliance with statutory requirements, contractual obligations, quality standards, and budgetary controls. The role involves planning, designing, implementing, and supervising traffic and highway schemes, while providing professional engineering advice and managing project delivery from inception through completion.

• Manage and deliver traffic engineering projects in line with agreed objectives, budgets, and timescales.
• Undertake traffic and transport studies, surveys, and investigations, analyzing findings to support scheme development.
• Design and develop traffic management, highway improvement, and transport schemes.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
• Ensure all projects comply with relevant legislation, technical standards, and contractual requirements.
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance and recommend tender acceptances where appropriate.

Essential Experience Required

Essential Qualifications Required

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Highway Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body such as ICE, CIHT, or IHE.

• Working hours: 35 hours per week.
• We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
