Position Overview

This role involves leading traffic studies, analysis, and design for transportation projects. Candidates should demonstrate a high-level understanding of traffic operations and design, develop creative technical solutions, and possess excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills. Oversight, mentorship, and management support of traffic staff will be essential, along with responsiveness to clients.

Responsibilities

1. Manage projects ranging from small intersection improvements to complex interchanges and corridors.
2. Conduct traffic operations modeling, simulations, capacity analysis, safety studies, transportation planning, and travel demand modeling.
3. Design traffic control devices including signals, signing, pavement markings, ITS devices, and lighting.
4. Collaborate with clients such as VDOT and various Virginia localities.

Minimum Requirements

• BSCE with at least 10 years of traffic engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license; Virginia registration preferred.
• High-level understanding of macro, meso, and micro traffic modeling; experience in model development and application.
• Proficiency with VISSIM, VISUM, HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA.
• Experience designing traffic control devices and working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• Exceptional communication, technical writing, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Positive attitude and teamwork-oriented approach.
• Experience developing proposals, project management, and contract management.
