Job summary

Avenue Consultants is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer in Phoenix, AZ. This role requires a PE license, a Bachelor's in civil engineering, and 8+ years of relevant experience.

You will analyze traffic data, develop signal timing plans, and lead maintenance of traffic for construction projects. The position emphasizes effective communication with stakeholders, data-driven decision making, and proficiency in traffic software such as Synchro, Vissim, and TransCAD.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performing traffic analysis using software tools (TransCAD, Synchro, Tru-Traffic, VISSIM).
• Perform data and statistical analyses.
• Develop and implement traffic signal timing plans.
• Develop recommendations for Maintenance of Traffic for construction projects.
• Collect traffic data from on-site methods or online repositories.
• Conduct field observations of traffic conditions and controls.
• Perform traffic engineering studies (signal warrants, left-turn, speed, pedestrian).
• Summarize and communicate data, processes, and results.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Senior Traffic Engineer

Job Duties

• Performing traffic analysis using various software tools, including TransCAD, Synchro, Tru-Traffic, VISSIM
• Performing data and statistical analyses
• Developing and implementing traffic signal timing plans
• Developing recommendations of Maintenance of Traffic requirements for construction projects
• Collecting traffic data via on-site methods or from online data repositories, such as Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), ClearGuide, and Arizona's freeway performance measurement system
• Performing field observations of traffic conditions and the operation of traffic control devices
• Performing traffic engineering studies, such as traffic signal warrant studies, left-turn studies, speed studies, pedestrian studies, reduced speed area studies, and passing zones studies
• Effectively summarizing and communicating data, processes, and analysis results
• Perform other duties as assigned and experience allows

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field required
• Professional Engineering (PE) license required
• 8+ years of relevant experience preferred

Skills

• Good communication skills with the capability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
• A strong interest in in traffic operations
• An understanding of national traffic standards and ADOT's standards
• Capable of analyzing and interpreting traffic data
• Willingness to learn, provide feedback, and receive feedback
• Proficient with Microsoft office suite, especially Excel
• Proficient with traffic analysis software packages such as Synchro, Vissim, and TransCAD

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 100% of the time
• Consistently operates a computer and other office equipment such as scanner/printer, paper cutter, laminator, etc.
• Constantly communicates with discipline experts, clients, team members, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
• Must be able to perceive digital software, programs, and websites
