Job summary

Avenue Consultants in Phoenix, AZ seeks a Traffic Operations Engineer to perform traffic operations, data analysis, and signal timing plans. You will update signal control and central systems, and develop MOIT recommendations for construction projects, leveraging ATSPM and Synchro.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, a PE license, and 4+ years of relevant experience. Strong communication and Excel skills are essential, with opportunities for growth within TRD.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic operations using Synchro, Tru-Traffic, WaySync-D, ATSPM.
• Analyze data for corridor and freeway operations.

• Provide Maintenance of Traffic recommendations for construction.
• Collect traffic data via on-site or online repositories (ATSPM, ClearGuide).
• Conduct field observations and various traffic studies.
• Summarize and communicate data, processes, and results.
• Take on additional duties as needed.

Job Duties

• Performing traffic operations using various software tools, including Synchro, Tru-Traffic, WaySync-D, ATSPM
• Performing data and statistical analyses for using Corridor and freeway operations
• Developing and implementing traffic signal timing plans
• Updating plans at the signal control and central systems
• Developing recommendations of Maintenance of Traffic requirements for construction projects
• Collecting traffic data via on-site methods or from online data repositories, such as Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), ClearGuide, and Arizona's freeway performance measurement system
• Performing field observations of traffic conditions and the operation of traffic control devices
• Performing traffic engineering studies, such as traffic signal warrant studies, left-turn studies, speed studies, pedestrian studies, reduced speed area studies, and passing zones studies
• Effectively summarizing and communicating data, processes, and analysis results
• Perform other duties as assigned and experience allows

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required
• Professional Engineering (PE) license required
• 4+ years of relevant experience preferred

Skills

• Good communication skills with the capability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
• A strong interest in in traffic operations
• Capable of analyzing and interpreting traffic data
• Willingness to learn, provide feedback, and receive feedback
• Proficient with Microsoft office suite, especially Excel
• Proficient with traffic analysis software packages such as Synchro

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 100% of the time
• Consistently operates a computer and other office equipment such as scanner/printer, paper cutter, laminator, etc.
• Constantly communicates with discipline experts, clients, team members, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
• Must be able to perceive digital software, programs, and websites
