Our client, Urban Engineers, is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer – Signals & Signal System Design to join their growing team. This role offers hybrid flexibility and can be based out of their Philadelphia, Cherry Hill, or King of Prussia offices.

As a nationally recognized design and engineering firm, Urban supports major transportation infrastructure projects that keep communities moving. In this high-impact, client-facing role, you’ll lead the development of traffic signal designs, timing plans, system integration, and operational studies for public and private sector clients.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the design and development of traffic signals, interconnect layouts, and signal timing plans
• Prepare construction documents (PS&E) for signal and signal system projects
• Conduct traffic operations analyses using Synchro, VISSIM, and related tools
• Perform signal warrant analyses, traffic impact studies, and corridor coordination
• Oversee QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with PennDOT, NJDOT, ITE, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards
• Manage scopes, schedules, and budgets for assigned projects
• Collaborate across disciplines on multi-discipline projects
• Mentor junior staff and support technical development
• Engage in business development and proposal efforts

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• 8+ years of traffic engineering experience in a consulting environment
• PE license (required); PTOE certification (preferred)
• Hands-on experience with signal design, timing, and coordination
• Strong knowledge of PennDOT, NJDOT, and City of Philadelphia standards
• Proficiency with Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

Bonus Points For:

• Experience with adaptive signal systems and ITS
• Familiarity with fiber optic communications and traffic system integration
• Strong client relationships with NJDOT, PennDOT, MPOs, or local agencies
