Job description

Job Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage a traffic engineering team.
2. Project Management:
   1. Lead and manage traffic engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence.
   2. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway design, environmental, and construction teams.
3. Traffic Engineering Analysis and Design:
   1. Perform traffic studies, including traffic impact analyses, corridor studies, safety analyses, and operational studies.
   2. Design and review traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, lighting, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
   3. Develop and evaluate traffic management plans, including Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and temporary traffic control plans.
4. Technical Leadership:
   1. Serve as a subject matter expert for traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
   2. Oversee and guide junior engineers, providing mentorship and technical direction.
   3. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal standards, including MUTCD, AASHTO, FHWA, and state DOT guidelines.
5. Stakeholder Engagement:
   1. Collaborate with public agencies, clients, and stakeholders to address project requirements and challenges.
   2. Represent the organization in client meetings, public hearings, and stakeholder workshops.
6. Business Development:
   1. Identify new opportunities and assist in preparing proposals, bids, and presentations.
   2. Maintain and strengthen client relationships to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.

Qualifications:

1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
2. License: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (required) in Tennessee, or capable of obtaining within 3 months of employment.
3. Experience: 7–15 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering or transportation engineering.
4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, SIDRA), CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpedRoads Designer (ORD)), and GIS tools.
5. Knowledge: Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, roadway safety design, and applicable standards and guidelines.
6. Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
