Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a traffic engineering team.
- Project Management:
- Lead and manage traffic engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway design, environmental, and construction teams.
- Traffic Engineering Analysis and Design:
- Perform traffic studies, including traffic impact analyses, corridor studies, safety analyses, and operational studies.
- Design and review traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, lighting, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
- Develop and evaluate traffic management plans, including Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and temporary traffic control plans.
- Technical Leadership:
- Serve as a subject matter expert for traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
- Oversee and guide junior engineers, providing mentorship and technical direction.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal standards, including MUTCD, AASHTO, FHWA, and state DOT guidelines.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with public agencies, clients, and stakeholders to address project requirements and challenges.
- Represent the organization in client meetings, public hearings, and stakeholder workshops.
- Business Development:
- Identify new opportunities and assist in preparing proposals, bids, and presentations.
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- License: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (required) in Tennessee, or capable of obtaining within 3 months of employment.
- Experience: 7–15 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering or transportation engineering.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, SIDRA), CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpedRoads Designer (ORD)), and GIS tools.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, roadway safety design, and applicable standards and guidelines.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
