Job summary

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks a skilled Trades Technician III for the Christanna Campus. You will serve as a multi-trade mechanic performing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, and related maintenance to ensure safe, efficient campus facilities.

You will report to the Maintenance Manager and supervise/guide other maintenance staff. A valid VA driver’s license is required, with DPOR licensure desirable and an EPA 608 certification already in hand.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in multiple skilled trades including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, and general facilities maintenance.
• Currently certified EPA Section 608 Technician (Type I/II or Universal).
• Ability to obtain DPOR HVAC and/or electrical license within first year of employment.
• Knowledge of plumbing and electrical repair practices, codes and regulations.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment operation and safety.
• Ability to read manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and related documents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google apps; able to learn facilities maintenance software.
• Ability to plan and estimate maintenance projects and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

• General maintenance and repairs of College buildings, equipment, systems, and facilities.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade HVAC systems.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and fixtures.
• Perform routine electrical system maintenance and repairs.
• Carry out carpentry, masonry, painting, and related repairs.
• Maintain facilities to ensure a safe, clean campus environment.
• Identify and implement equipment and system upgrades for safety and efficiency.
• Follow safety procedures and work safely; use tools properly.
• Provide technical guidance to other maintenance staff.
• Possess ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
