Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Trades/Utilities Master Mechanic to maintain and repair electrical and mechanical equipment in its academic facilities. The role troubleshoots failures, responds to trouble calls, and conducts repairs safely while upholding university safety standards.

The position is designated Emergency Personnel, requiring reporting during emergencies and closures. The successful candidate will support a healthy work environment and Virginia Tech's Ut Prosim motto.

Qualifications

• Current Virginia Journey or Master Level license in electrical, plumbing trade or HVAC trades.
• Or current Journey or Master level licensing agreement (reciprocity) from another jurisdiction (State) as approved by the Virginia Board for Contractors which must be converted within 6 months.
• Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience at the journey level in electrical and mechanical trades in an industrial, commercial or institutional trades environment.
• Working knowledge of blueprints, technical drawings and/or sketches.
• Recordkeeping experience.
• Ability to learn and use the computerized Facilities work order system to enter time, obtain, create and edit work orders, and request materials.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, inspect, service and repair electrical and mechanical equipment in assigned buildings.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical or mechanical failures; respond to trouble calls and perform safe repairs.
• Inspect buildings for safety hazards and perform repairs as needed.
