Job description

Senior Tooling Technician

Responsible for machining, fabricating, and maintaining custom tooling, fixtures, and equipment used in production. Serves as the department’s technical expert in machining and fabrication processes, and provides backup maintenance support.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; technical diploma/certification in machining, manufacturing technology, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in machining, fabrication, or tool/fixture building in a manufacturing environment; general industrial maintenance experience preferred. Must have manual mill/lathe proficiency; CNC experience a plus.
  • Design: Ability to design from concept using hand sketches or simple CAD (preferred but not required).
  • Travel: 0–5%
  • Work Schedule: Typical hours 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday; overtime may be required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to evaluate tooling needs and identify improvements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of fabrication work, repairs, materials used, and project timelines.
  • Assist in training junior technicians in basic machining or fabrication skills.
  • Complete special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Uphold company safety standards and participate actively in safety programs.
Tooling & Fabrication
  • Machine custom tooling, jigs, and fixtures using mills, lathes, saws, grinders, and CNC equipment where applicable.
  • Perform welding and fabrication using MIG/TIG/stick processes as required.
  • Produce hand‑drawn concepts or basic design sketches to communicate tooling solutions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T symbols, tolerances, and material callouts.
  • Develop and refine tooling solutions to improve production efficiency, safety, and repeatability.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety of fabrication workspaces and equipment.
  • Install, set up, and adjust tooling for production equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on molds, dies, fixtures, and cutting tools.
  • Troubleshoot tooling-related issues affecting product quality or machine performance.
  • Inspect tools for wear, damage, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Modify and fabricate tooling components as required.
  • Support new product launches by preparing and validating required tooling.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair documentation of tooling and workshop equipment.
Maintenance Support
  • Serve as a backup maintenance technician during periods of high demand or limited fabrication workload.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and repair on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Support installation, modification, or upgrade of production equipment and tooling.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
