Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Tooling Engineer Level 4 to design tooling, dies, gauges, fixtures, and attachment hardware for production and experimental use. The role emphasizes creating 3D models and 2D drawings, ensuring manufacturability, and leading design reviews.

The candidate will work with cross-functional teams, monitor budgets, and ensure timely delivery while maintaining safety standards and compliance with DoD requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 years of experience in mechanical/design/tooling/manufacturing or related field
• Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of experience in the fields noted
• PhD in STEM with 4 years of experience in the fields noted
• P.E. Certification in Structural or Machine Design and Materials
• Structural analysis experience (FEA and hand calculations)
• Experience with tooling used in manufacture of composite and metallic parts
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD clearance
• Experience with Solid modeling (NX preferred)
• Experience with GD&T and 2D drawing preparation

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models and 2D drawings for tooling and production equipment
• Design safe, manufacturable tools and fixtures for programs
• Lead 30/60/90% design reviews and ensure customer satisfaction
• Collaborate with internal customers to conceptualize tooling
• Coordinate with Tool Engineering to deliver designs on time and budget
• Monitor budgets and schedules for tasks
• Review designs for manufacturability and quality
• Analyze tool designs using FEA and hand calculations
• Review and seal safety-critical tool designs
